RULES AND REGULATIONS OF SHYAMBAZAR LAW COLLEGE

BACHELOR OF ARTS BACHELOR OF LAWS 5-YEAR COURSE (B.A. LL.B. 5-YEAR COURSE)

1. NOTICE BOARD:

Student should take great care to look up the Notice Boards on coming to the college and while leaving the college. No excuse will be considered if notices on the board are ignored. It is responsibility of the students to read the Notice Boards regularly for important announcements made by the college office from time to time. The notice displayed on the Notice Boards shall be deemed to have been served on the students.

2. DRESS CODE:

It is recommended that students come to college in simple and unostentatious dress suitable for an academic environment. Students are requested to be dressed neatly and decently.

3. SMOKING AND CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL:

Smoking and consumption of alcohol within the College premises or entering the college premises having consumed alcohol is strictly forbidden. Any students found smoking or under the influence of intoxication of alcohol / drugs in the college shall be liable for strict disciplinary action, even expulsion from the college.

4. IDENTITY CARD:

Each student shall be provided with Identity card. This card is to be carried by them always whenever he or she is in the college premises and present the Identity Card for inspection on demand.
The Identity Card should not be passed on for use to anyone else, otherwise the owner of the card shall be held responsible for any misuse, damage or loss caused by user.
If the Identity Card is lost the college office must be informed immediately. New Identity Card will be issued on payment of necessary charges.
In case of transfer or withdrawal from this college the Identity Card must be returned to the college office.

5. MOBILE PHONE:

Use of mobile phones, walkmans, i-pods etc within the college premises is not permitted. Mobile phones shall be confiscated if the students are found to be using phones in class rooms.

6. POSTERS:

No posters are to be posted or fixed with cello tape anywhere on the college walls. Strict punishment shall be imposed if anyone is found writing on the walls.

7. PARKING:

Cars, Bicycle, Cycles of the staff and students are to be kept at the owner’s responsibility. The college shall take no responsibility of any loss/theft of vehicles. Good civil sense demands that vehicles should be kept in parking area and the parking fees are to be borne by the owners.

8. RAILWAY CONCESSIONS:

Railway concessions shall have to be arranged by the students themselves. However college will issue necessary concession orders so that students can avail railway concessions.

9. CLASS ROOMS:

The College Class Rooms should not be used for Private study outside college hours without written permission of management. Students must make all possible efforts to consume electricity and water. They must switch off lights and fans when they leave class rooms, laboratory, library etc.

10. RAGGING:

Ragging of any kind and magnitude inside / out site the college campus shall not be tolerated and stringent disciplinary action will be taken against the accused. Any incident of ragging must be brought to notice of the Principal / Teacher-in-charge.
Students are prohibited to take part in ragging or any other activity which is detrimental to the dignity of college. Any students violating the college regulations shall face disciplinary action.

11. LOITERING:

Students must not loiter inside the college premises while the classes are on. Loud talking, loitering or congregating, being a source of destruction and annoyance to others is not permitted. Loitering around or littering in the college campus or corridor are strictly prohibited.

12. ABSENCE:

In case of absence of any student on account of illness, the Principal / Teacher-in-charge should be informed by the parent’s personally and on resuming the student should report to the Principal / Teacher-in-charge along with medical certificate in support of his / her leave.

13. SOCIETY AND ASSOCIATIONS:

No Society or Association shall be formed in the college and no outside person should be invited for addressing or conducting any meeting without the prior permission of the management. No student shall collect any money or contribution for any unauthorized activity without be prior permission of the management. Serious action will be taken against students found organizing or participating in such unauthorized activities.

14. COLLEGE PROPERTY:

Students are expected to take proper care of college property and help the college authority in keeping the premises clean. Damaging college property like disfiguring walls, doors, fittings or breaking furniture and misusing college assets shall be considered as breach of discipline and guilty shall be duly punished. The students have to compensate for the damage caused to college property by their negligence or by causing willful damage. Defacing of walls of the college shall be viewed seriously.

15. CONDUCT:

Each student shall conduct himself / herself both within and outside the campus of the college in a manner befitting a student. Each student shall show due respect and courtesy to teachers, administrators and staff of college and behave in a good way with fellow students. Lack of courtesy and decorum, unbecoming conduct within and outside the college, willful damage to college property, removal of any property belonging to the college or fellow students or other personnel of the college, use of abusive and offensive language, disturbing fellow students in their studies, breach of rules and regulations of college, adoption of unfair practices in fests, quizzes, assignments or examinations, noisy and unruly behavior shall constitute violation of the code of conduct. Any kind of violent conduct in the college in strictly prohibited.

16. SAFETY:

Students shall observe all safety precautions. College shall not be responsible for any accident of whatever nature in the college or play ground or during any educational tour / trip. Health and safety rules are to be strictly obeyed by the students.

17. ATTENDANCE:

A candidate shall be considered to have prosecuted a regular course of study if he has attended 70% of the total lectures delivered in the subjects concerned as also the Moot Court, Tutorials and Practical Training conducted in the subject taken together provided that if a student for any exceptional reasons fails to attend 70% of the classes held in the subject, the Vice Chancellor or the University, Dean of the Faculty or Principal of the College as the case may be, may allow the student to take the examination / test if the student concerned has attended at least 65% of the classes held in the subject concerned.

18. RE-ADMISSION:

If a student fails to attend required number of classes and is declared discollegiate in any academic year, he may take re-admission within one month from the date of commencement of the classes. There will be no re-admission for a student who has failed in the end semester examination.
Provide further that in all cases of re-admission a student has to pass B.A. LL.B final examination within eight years from the year of first admission.

Explanation: If at any point of time it becomes clear that a student will not be able to pass his B.A. LL.B Final Examination within eight years from the year of first admission even if he passes all the subsequent examinations in the first chance, he shall not be allowed re-admission to continue his study.

19. Transfer:

As per norms of the University of Calcutta, transfer from a self financed Law College to any Government or Government Aided Law College is not permissible. If any student gets himself/ herself transferred from Shyambazar Law College( a self financed Law College)at any point of time in the middle of his/her full course tenure of 5 years , by violating the said norm, he/she shall have to clear /pay all the dues fees up to the final semester( 10th Semester)and do the same at his/her own risk and in that case he/she have to collect his/her marksheet(s), registration certificates etc from the University of Calcutta. The college authority shall not be liable or responsible for such self determined transfer of the student at any point of time and/ or under any circumstance. However the above condition is not applicable for students eligible for Honours, but in that case also student shall have to apply with valid reasons to his/ her College for the transfer certificate.

Further students willing to discontinue the course shall have to take written permission from the Department of Law , University of Calcutta and submit the same to the College authority , clear all the dues of the college before being permitted to discontinue the course.
